Many of you personally reached out to me questioning my absence from social media (thanks for being so observant guys!). Obbbbviously something was brewing. I took a two month hiatus for myself, which is actually like eons in this industry, but I’m back now and I’m ready to share my journey with you all!
Haris and I found out we were pregnant on 10/1/2017 – the day after I turned 30 (probably one of the most emotionally moving and climactic moments of my life). We were kind of busy on my “September to Remember” birthday celebration that my husband so perfectly pulled together (bless his heart). We were in Split, Croatia at the time and we had just finished up an epic six-island tour (this girl beat sea sickness, hell yeah!). I didn’t think anything of it at the time because I did not feel a thing – no nausea, no vomiting. Just extreme fatigue.
We stopped off at a convenience store on our walk back to our hotel and somehow sign languaged the lady working there to give us a pregnancy test. When we got back to the hotel I drank tons of water and then did the deed. I wish I had saved the test now that I think about it, but the line was so incredibly faint and none of the instructions were in English. Granted, yes how difficult can a pregnancy test really be, but we threw it away thinking it’s probably not even accurate.
It wasn’t until we got to London that all I wanted to do was S-L-E-E-P! For so long. I love being active and try to do as much as humanly possible in a day when on vacation. But all I wanted to do was just draw a hot bath and crash for days! I chalked the exhaustion and tiredness off to it being our last leg of the trip – motors winding down!
There was one teeny tiny red flag that really got me thinking “maybe this is for real” – I was detesting the scent of coffee. Now if you KNOW me, you know I would consider myself a coffee fieeeend, a connoisseur, an addict, so naturally, I freaked at the idea of coffee making me nauseous. Something was definitely up, I thought to myself.
Fast forward a couple of days and we’re home from our trip. I send Haris to our local Target to grab a few tests and low and behold, we found the double line, testing positive. Even though I was expecting it, I was still a bit shocked. There was every bit of a chance that my body was playing tricks on me. I don’t feel a thing so it’s probably just a fluke! We booked our “confirmation” appointment with the doctor, and there it was, the very first heart beat I’ve ever heard, the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard.
So here I am in my second trimester. It still feels like a bit of a dream. I keep forgetting and then suddenly remember that I have a little humanoid growing inside of me; and as I see my bump grow, my heart just grows twice the same size, Alhamdulillah (all praises and thanks be to God).
P.S – I want to hear from all of my hot mamas out there – how did YOU find out when you were preggers? Share your story in the comments!
